Skapa
A downloadable game for Windows
Skapa is a 3D, semi-cooperative, city building game.
Features
- Stacking mini-game
- Finish the stack to decorate the stack
- Finish decorating to place the stack into the world!!
- Time cycles randomly every time you switch scenes, to show how it would be like in the exhibition (e.g. without waiting 1 real hour for the sunset)
- The game does not feature local saving due to time constraints so progress will be loss if exited.
- In the actual exhibit, the game would be saved so people can collaborate all the time, evolving the city.
This project was developed for the QAGOMA project brief for IGB200 at QUT. It is played through the isometric perspective and has elements of exploration within territory that strongly resemble Iceland’s vast landscape as we wanted to draw inspiration from a familiar place, Olafur Eliasson’s home country.
The core mechanics of the game is the minigame, where players can create their own tower through a stacking game where they must stack floors on top of one another as they move. Upon their loss, they can take the tower they have created, and place it down on the map, along with other players towers to create a massive city. As players expand, they can discover various secrets around the map that can make it feel more alive and special. It adheres to the brief as it takes inspiration from Olafur Eliasson’s artworks and how they make visitors feel. We created an art piece that invites players to this world, letting them interact with it and bring it to life, just like what his artworks do.

I loved this game! It's such an interesting premise and I would love to see the game played at a big scale. There's a lot of design considerations I'm left thinking about after playing it and I would love to talk to you about them if you're interested! I have a YouTube channel about indie games and I've been wanting to interview more indie developers. Let me know if you're interested! I'd love to chat!
